Isaan Street Food Goes Digital

10 April 2018

The Thai Foreign Affairs Ministry has introduced a “Street Food Isaan” mobile application to allure international foodies to that northeastern region and help them navigate through the diversity of local eateries and dishes.

The app features over 100 street food outlets across eight Isaan provinces: Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Loei and Surin.

Street Food Isaan is the fourth app in the street food series developed by the Ministry. The previous three cover Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, and Phuket.

The app is available in both Android and IOS versions, and in three languages: Thai, English, and Chinese. The app allows the user to easily select a food, look at the ingredients and search for a diner by name, location, or type of food. The app also allows users to link to Google Maps for directions.

As Thai cuisine is increasingly popular among foreign travelers, local authorities intend to use state-of-the-art digital technology to promote the Thai culture and traditional culinary arts.
