Phuket to Host Formula 1 Powerboat Race

04 April 2016

In November, Phuket will host a Formula 1 powerboat race. Two of the island's most popular beaches, Bangtao and Karon, are in the running to host the races. Nine teams from 11 countries will compete in the Grand Prix in Europe, the Middle East and Asia for the title of world champion. Large-scale concerts headlined by Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Adele will be part of the event, the Phuket Gazette reported.

"If it really happens, this will be the biggest event ever hosted in Phuket,” said Pramookpisitt Achariyachai, honorary consul for Finland in Phuket. “Ultra-wealthy people attend this type of event, so it's easy to imagine how hotels and other businesses on the island would benefit."
