Thailand to Exploit Pokémon Go to Boost Tourism

02 September 2016

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has asked Pokémon Go creator Niantic to add PokéStops and Gyms, key parts of the game that appear in real-world locations, to spots outside popular tourist destinations, thus encouraging travelers to visit less-travelled provinces.

The list includes Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Phetchabun, Nan, Samut Songkhram, Loei and Ratchaburi. Thai tourism authorities have also suggested that some characters be activated late in the evening to create extra incentive for players to stay in those locations overnight.

Pokémon Go was officially launched in Thailand on 6 August.
