Events Cancelled During Mourning Period

25 October 2016

Entertainment events and festivals in Phuket will be cancelled during November following the death of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Loy Krathong festivities in Patong and beauty contests are among the activities that have been cancelled, authorities said, adding that people who wish to create their own celebration and float krathongs down the Pak Bang channel will be free to do so.

This year's Patong Carnival, traditionally held to mark the beginning of the island’s high season, has been cancelled.

Thai tourism authorities say that the flow of foreign visitors has not been affected by the mourning in the Kingdom.
