Ocean Cleanup Expanded

27 December 2017

Following the success of its Upcycling the Oceans campaign, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has launched “Save The Ocean & Save For Your Next Dive”. Divers are offered the opportunity to earn discounts on dive trips in return for helping protect Thailand’s marine ecosystem.

Participating operators and dive sites are located on the Kingdom’s east coast. Further details can be found on the organizer’s website.

Thailand was the first Asian country to join the Upcycling the Oceans global initiative launched by Ecoalf Foundation. Plastic debris harvested from the ocean is turned into thread to make fabrics. Ecoalf Foundation estimates are that more than 8 million tons of trash flow into the world’s oceans each year, around 60% of which originates from Asia.
