The Thai people observe Chakri Memorial Day every year on 6 April. The Chakri royal family is the epitome of Thailand, so any tourist visiting Thailand at this time will be lucky as the grandeur of the celebrations exceed all expectations.
A key national holiday, it celebrates the founding of the still-reigning Chakri royal dynasty, which dates to 1782. Thailand is the only country where one dynasty of monarchs has ruled for more than 200 years – a fact noted in the Guinness Book of World Records.
On 6 April, His Majesty the King, accompanied by family members, will preside over religious ceremonies held at the royal chapel. Government offices, schools, and banks close in homage to the rulers.
On this day, the streets of all towns and villages are lavishly decorated with flowers and garlands. Lavish parades, concerts and performances are held nationwide. People place offerings of food or gifts as a token of thanks and respect to their ancestors and praise the royal family. In the evening, spectacular fireworks light up the skies over the Kingdom.
