Bangkok explosion: updated information

18 August 2015

According to the recent data of the Тourism Аuthority of Тhailand, 20 people were killed and more than 100 injured during the blast in Bangkok on August 17. Two tourists from China and one Filipino are among the casualties, and several people from Singapore were wounded. Thai police report that by now no organization has claimed responsibility for the incident. The Thai Defense Minister claims that the aim of attack was to hurt the economy of Thailand, due to the scene at one of the popular tourist sites.

Bangkok is under intensive police supervision. The situation in Bangkok is currently stable: banks, hotels, restaurants, shopping malls remain opened as usual. Roads and bridges reopened to traffic.

In view of the blast special checkpoints were set at all Thai airports, thus strengthening the control. This primarily affected the popular tourist destinations. Foreigners are asked to arrive to the terminals 6 hours before the scheduled departure.

We recall that the powerful explosion in the capital of Thailand occurred in the evening of August 17. Incident took place close to the Erawan Shrine in the Chidlom area.
