Official: E-Visas Are On the Way

30 January 2017

The Thai government has decided to adopt an electronic visa system, according to a top tourism official.

“We are working on the introduction of an e-Visa - the first phase should be completed by the end of this year and the full phase will be completed in 2018,” Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said during a news conference convened to announce the hosting of the World Travel and Tourism Council Global Summit in Bangkok from 26 to 27 April.

She said that tourists would be able to apply for visas electronically, then the information will be handled by immigration authorities or consular officials and entered into a database. This innovation is expected to ease the procedure for obtaining visas and attract more foreign visitors to the Kingdom.
