Thailand Reports 9.2 mln Visitors in Three Months

30 March 2017

Yuthasak Supasorn, governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), has reported first quarter 2017 financial results and provided an outlook for the second quarter.

During the first quarter (January-March 2017), Thailand received 9.2 million international visitors, generating revenue of THB 734 billion (US $20.9 billion), up nine percent year-on-year.

Second quarter growth is anticipated to continue to hit the six percent year-on-year target, or 8.02 million international visitor arrivals and 11 percent to THB 400 billion (US $11.42 billion). In that period, the Kingdom will host major international events, including the WTTC Global Summit (26–27 April, Bangkok), and the Destination Wedding Planners Congress (2–4 May, Phuket).

During the Songkran festivities between 13 and 17 April, Thailand is expected to welcome at least 470,000 international visitors, and generate some THB 8 billion (US $228 million) in revenue.
